I listened to Roses for Saturn. Of course I am familiar with most of the songs from the tape, but they sound really nice on the cd. I'm going to go through the songs and say one or two things about each one: 1. Willie: This still might be my favorite. Your songs have a pretty consistant quality, so there isn't a big drop off from the ones I like best to the ones I like least, but I like Willie a lot. 2. Arnie the Astronaut Dog: you did a nice job on this. It's smooth and mellow. A lot of your songs go with with different social settings. Some of it is good party music, some of it is good driving and thinking music. Some of it would be good movie soundtrack music. 3. Dream Catcher: This would be a good song to listen to with your best girl. Chicks would dig it. 4. Trout du jour: This song is one of my top five songs. I think it is one of, if not your best instrumental. And the lyrics read like a poem. The music is strong and the words are strong, but I'd like to hear this as a straight instrumental and I'd like to hear the words on another melody. It's sort of like the music is so good, the words get in the way of it, but the words are too good to abandon. 5. Jammin' with the Mayans. I like this, a real professional job on this one. Nice instrumental. 6. Seasons: Too bad Jim Morrison isn't alive to sing this. This is also one of my top five, maybe right up there with Willie. This could be a hit if the right band had it. I'm really high on this one. 7. Alamo Square: I think the Moody Blues still play. Send it to them. They need a new hit. This is nice. 8. Visitors in the Night: It's urban. It's edgy. It would make good backround music on the "Silk Stalkings" tv show on USA. Send it to them. 9. Jozef the Metalist: The only thing I don't like about this song is that it makes me want to take a few hits off the trout pipe, but i don't have any doobage. 10. Retro: This and Jozef go good together. They are a party waiting to happen. Smashmouth could use this song. 11. Roses for Saturn: Sweet, like a bouquet of roses. Stick this is in the envelope that you're sending to the Moody Blues. 12. The Messenger: I like this because I am always grateful that I got to shoot baskets instead of VC. This song may be 30 years too late, but maybe not in movie soundtrack land. 13. The Artist: the Artist is artistry. Art for Art's sake. Not Artemis. 14. Into the Blue Pacific: I went to Monterey once. I feel like going back when I listen to this. Let's go. Bear trip to California. 15: Harry: Harry better watch it or he will end up like Willie. I like this song. This is another that Jim Morrison should sing, even though he is dead. This is a really good song, but I don't think it matches your voice. i'd like to hear the vocals dropped down an octave, and sung in a more gravely voice like Harry would have. Lots of potential though. 16. Pumpkin Girl. I would really like this song, even if I didn't know Ashley. The one thing I would like to hear different on this song, is the words in the refrain divided up. there are too many sylables for the amount of notes.... like: Ashley Esprit, she's my girl Ashley is my pumpkin girl instead of Ashley Esprit, she's my pumpkin girl (all at once) I like this song anyway though.
